When games like PUBG started to change the tide of multiplayer games that are available in the market, a familiar breed of the genre that was already there found its way towards the mainstream.
For those who do not know, the battle royale genre is nothing new. As a matter of fact, it has been around for a long time now, but it only managed to reach the level of popularity because of PUBG.
Brendan Greene, the mastermind behind the concept of battle royale games, made PUBG. However, PUBG catered to a much more mature audience who has a tactical approach to gun fights rather than fun-loving children who just want some fun looking graphics and quirky game play mechanics.
This is when Fortnite came into play. Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite took the battle royale concept and molded it in a way that was more suitable for everyone, and the twist was that aside from just a 100 man battle royale, the game also had building mechanics that would allow the players to construct some wicked looking structures in order to find cover, or to improvise.
Needless to say, Fortnite managed to amass a huge audience, but the one thing about the game is that it is not easy to master. While survival is not the difficult part, the deeply woven mechanics of the game require mastering. That is why below are some of the tips that will help you get better at the game.
1. Choose The Landing Location Wisely
How you want to play the game matters a lot when it comes to choosing the landing location. If you are looking for quick action, then landing at a named location is the smarter thing to do.
However, if you are looking for some loot, then land at locations that are not named, and mostly at the end of the map.
Another thing that you need to keep in mind is that if you are new to the game, and you want some time to figure out the mechanics of the game or how things work, then wait for the battle bus to be empty and then land at a location that is farthest from every other location.
Some of the best locations for quick action are Retail Row, Dusty Divot, and Tilted Towers.
2. Land On The Top Of Buildings
Another tip that I would give you is to land on top of the buildings when it comes to landing in the first place.
The reason is rather simple: when you land on the rooftops, you can simply use your axe and chop through the roof, and you will land next to an attic, or the upper floor of the building. There are high chances that you will find some loot there.
3. Run For The Gun
There are chances that you might end up landing next to a player.
Rather than running towards them with an axe, run towards the nearest weapon so you can take them down. Sure, you can axe them as well, but it will take 10 hits along with you jumping everywhere to avoid any awkward contact with their axe, because obviously, they will leave no chance to hit you back.
Guns are much better because a few shots and your enemy is dead meat.
4. Good Loot is Important
Just like everyone in the game, the first thing that you should be looking for is good loot.
However, the key detail here is that the loot you find is not related to the place you land in. For instance, just because the tilted tower was full of amazing loot when you first landed there does not mean that the loot will be the same the next time you do.
Loot is completely random in Fortnite, as with all the other battle royale games.
5. The Loot Chests are Your Friends
One of the best thing about Fortnite is that you come across a few loot chests in the game. They are on the rarer side so you might find a few scattered throughout the map.
They are usually making a sound wherever they are placed, so if you do hear something like that, you are going to have to find the loot chest for that. The thing about loot chests is that they are mostly hidden, so you will have to keep your eyes sharp.
There are some times that the loot chest is on the roof, and if there is no way to get on the roof, then build a ramp instead of breaking down the roof, because if you do axe down the roof, you will lose the loot chest.
6. Weapon Grades
Unlike PUBG, the weapons are not universal in Fortnite. Which means that they are spread over different grades that you must know about in the first place.
For starters, weapons are divided with respect to their color, with grey being the most common one, and then there is green, blue, and orange being the rarest one. The rarer the weapon, the more powerful it is. So, make sure you aim for the best weapon assortment.
7. Environment Can Heal You
Another great thing about playing Fortnite is that if you are low on health, you can seek some help from the environment around you. If you are not sure, you can get access to apples and mushrooms that are dotted on the map.
Although they only provide you with 5 percent of health and shield, they are good for taking you out of tight situations.
Now the important thing that you need to understand here is that consuming these items takes time, so you might want to make sure that you don’t waste an awful lot of time doing just that.
8. Don’t Play Without Headset Pair
A good pair of headset is really, really important if you want to be able to play Fortnite without putting yourself in too much trouble.
The thing with headsets is that they will allow you to hear where the enemies are coming from by giving you directional audio. In addition to that, you will be able to hear gunshots as long as you are in the audible range. It’s a lot more helpful than you might believe in the first place.
If you’re unsure about which headset to buy, there many informational headset guides out there.
From the surface, it looks as if Fortnite is a game that happens to be a lot easier than you might believe in the first place. The game looks childish, and something that anyone can play.
However, the game is not as easy as it may sound because, beneath those childish graphics, there lies a very intricate building mechanic that you must master in order to become a better player in the game.
With that said, the above tips and tricks should help you become a better player in Fortnite. However, you must know that these are not the final tips, as there are plenty of more in the game that you can follow, and become a better player than you already are.
