How to watch Amazon Instant Video on Chromecast or Android TV

Over the past few years, streaming services have been slowly gaining popularity. Today, one can very easily watch a wide range of television shows, movies or documentaries on the go. Streaming services like Amazon prime have now become the true urban trends. They are low cost, relatively at least, and require a bit of technical know-how to set up. In the end, though, they are completely worth it. One gets a world of content easily as long as they have a steady connection to the internet, sometimes even without it.

Google Chromecast

This has been one of the truly impressive additions to the streaming device ecosystem. The Chromecast is a small device that is plugged into the TV’s HDMI port. It is simple to use and the press and stream ecosystem has won it fans across the world. The only problem, though, is the fact that it does not support the Amazon instant video. If you own one of these, do not be afraid. Instead of adding more devices like the fire stick or cube to get Amazon instant TV, here is a much simpler process you might find useful.

  1. Requirements

The basics here are that one already has the Google Chromecast or an Android TV box that is attached to the television. One also requires an active local network and a computer that is connected to the same network. This can work with either Windows or iOS, but one must have the Chrome browser installed. The Chromebook or a device running on the Chrome OS also works perfectly.

  1. Casting

The first step is to open the computer and go to the Chrome browser. Go to the three dots on the upper right corner and choose the cast option. If one has the Chromecast already set up, then there will be no need for extra steps. The best android TV box will also work perfectly here. What happens is that any Cast-capable devices that are connected to the local network are at this point are detected by the extension. One can then select which device to cast to.

At this point, all that remains is the actual casting. Navigate to the Amazon instant video and choose

a movie or TV show in the library or for those that are amazon prime subscribers, a movie that is available on prime. Ensure that the television and the Chromecast or the Android TV box that is being used is connected and switched on. Click on the cast icon and select the device, and the video/audio will show instantly on the TV. Click on play, sit back, relax and watch.

  1. Options

There are several tweaks that the cast tab allows one to make in order to adjust their viewing preferences. For instance, there are up to three video quality options one can choose from, the extreme quality 720p with a high bitrate, the high-quality 720p, and the standard quality 480p. To go to these, click on the settings icon on the cast button. There are other things that can be changed too, like the mute unmute. For volume changes, one has to use their television remote control device.

  1. Amazon instant video

There are several advantages of using the prime services. It not only gives access to your favorite movies, music and television shows, but you will also get discounts when shopping, and be offered free shipping. With Prime video, you will have access to some of the best television shows ever made, as well as the world’s most famous movies. There are also several cost options that one might go for if their 99 dollar plan seems too expensive.

One should note a few things when casting with the browser though. You can only watch videos at a maximum of 720p, unlike on the dedicated app where streaming can happen at 1080p. The difference is small, but it is noticeable especially for those who are used to watching high-quality videos. Further, you have to keep the computer connected throughout the whole session.

It is a less than perfect solution, but for the sheer embarrassment of content that one gets access to on Amazon, it is certainly worth a try, whether it is on Google Chromecast, on an Android TV or on an Android TV box.
